Nikos demonstrates outside the gallery during the season, ie from April
to October,
Monday to Saturday, weather permitting.
Best times to see him working are 19.00 to 22.30.
Rethymno is an historic town on the island of Crete, a Greek island in
the middle of the Mediterranean. Rethymno is located towards the centre
of the island on the Northern coast.

This image shows the town in detail, and the red arrow indicates where my gallery and workshop can be found. It is located east of the town, 200 metres from the eastern harbour wall. It is in a small street 10 metres from the beach road, and not far from a large hotel called Porto Rethymno. You should see signs for the workshop and gallery on both sides of the street.

Travelling by Car to Rethymno
If you are travelling from the outskirts of Rethymno, eg Platanes, you will
come into Rethymno on the old road, ie the only road other than the National
Road that runs parallel to the sea. You should get onto the Beach road and
you should look out for the signs for the gallery. Parking is dealt with
further down this page.
If you are travelling from another town, eg Hania, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos,
you will approach Rethymno by the National Road, the only road on Crete
that is vaguely like a motorway, and which goes from east to west along
the North Coast of Crete.
If you are coming to Rethymno from the East (Heraklion, Ag Nikolaos) you
should exit the National Road when you see the sign for Amari. Follow this
down to the T junction. Here you need nerves of steel as this is a busy
junction and hardly anyone will give way or indicate which direction they
want to go in. Go left and directly right to take the road that is almost
opposite the junction. Follow this road to the end, where you will see the
sea and then turn left onto the beach road. Travel for about 1.5 kilometres
and you should see the signs for the gallery. See Parking below.
If you are travelling to Rethymno from the West (eg Hania, sometimes spelt
Chania), you will know when you are at the Rethymno junction as there will
be a diversion as they are currently (2004) building an underpass for the
Rethymno junction so you will follow a diversion for about half a kilometre
and then follow the signs for Rethymno NOT Heraklion. This will take you
from the National Road into Rethymno. Carry straight on down into the town,
for a short while you will see the sea on your left until you hit the town
centre. You will pass the town gardens on your right and you will be obliged
to turn right - one way system - and then shortly you will turn first left,
just after the entrance to a car park. Follow the traffic(ie sort of straight
on) for about a kilometre, go past the large 'Champion' supermarket on your
right and at the next junction you will do a quick left and then right.
You are now in the Kallithea suburb. You will soon see a petrol station
on your right and a shop called MOKA on your left. Turn next left after
the 'the petrol station - it is not far. you will drive past a small park
on your right, then a church with parking in front. Park here. Continue
walking down this road to the beach road - you will see the sea. Porto Rethymno
hotel will be on your left, the sea in front of you, Haagan Dazs cafe on
your right. Turn right, go past the Haagan Dazs cafe, the supermarket and
turn right into a small street, you should see the signs for the gallery
and the lathe outside.
Parking
You can either park by the church, which is a 3 minute walk away from the
gallery, or down by the Marina which is a 6-8 minute walk. Assuming you
can get to the Beach Road, you will find the St George church (with parking)
by turning into the road between 'Pagliaccio' restaurant and 'Steris' Hotel.
Then take the first right, continue along this past the first very small
road intersection(this is Petalioti Street), then at the next junction turn
left and after about 30 metres you will see the parking areaa and the church.
Park there and walk back down to the sea and the Beach road. Turn right
by the Taverna on the corner, past the supermarket and the next small street
has the gallery.
If you want to park in the Marina carpark you will find it where the Eastern
Harbour wall is marked on the map above. Within the harbour area is a large
tarmaced carpark, you can't miss it. There are railings running parallel
to the road. Park there and walk away from the town ie east and in about
6 minutes you will see the signs for the gallery, just past the Hotel 'Porto
Rethymno'.
Travelling by Bus
If you take the local bus service it will bring you to the bus station which
is past the Fortezza on the opposite side of town to our gallery. If you
are coming from the East of Crete try asking the bus driver if he can drop
you in Kallithea, more specifically at 'Vio' (spelt Bio but pronounced Vio)which
is close to the fire station I mentioned above. This means you are only
a 5 minute walk from the gallery. If you get dropped at the bus station
it is about 3 kilometres from the gallery, get a taxi and ask for Porto
Rethymno hotel, he may know Petalioti Street but for sure he will know Porto
Rethymno. Otherwise it is a nice walk from the bus station if it is not
too hot. Walk along the road that skirts the sea, round the Fortezza, past
the harbour and onto the beach road which you will follow east until you
see the signs for the shop, just past Porto Rethymno hotel.
